Update on Haiti Operations: January 19

In the wake of last week’s devastating earthquake in Haiti, we are relieved to report CNFA’s Haiti staff members are safe. Obviously, the first priority in the last week has been ascertaining our colleagues’ whereabouts and safety and assessing their immediate needs. Though they are all safe, many lost their homes, as well as family members. Our deepest condolences go out to each.

Unfortunately, two consultants working in Haiti with Solimar International, a subcontractor under CNFA's Market Chain Enhancement Project, remain missing. We pray that they will be returned to their families safe and sound.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of life and the widespread damage that Haiti has suffered. At the same time, we are inspired by the courage and strength of these wonderful people.

As soon as possible, CNFA will begin the process of assessing the earthquake’s impact on agriculture in the affected regions and move quickly to develop and launch strategies aimed at ensuring food security and restoring livelihoods and agriculture production.
