Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture

Strengthening market and food systems to improve food security, diets, and nutrition.

CNFA designs interventions that address the underlying causes of malnutrition. By drawing on our expertise in market and food systems development, we support local producers, processors, and traders in developing value chains that deliver healthy, nutritious foods.

Our interventions increase the year-round availability and affordability of food by introducing climate-smart technologies and food-loss and waste-reduction principles. For instance, we equip producers and processors with food storage and handling tools and technologies. Our socially inclusive programs maximize food security and nutrition impacts, building the resilience of vulnerable groups, especially women and children.

Through field assessments, we gain a greater understanding of the interplay between food and market systems, supply and demand functions, and consumer behaviors. This enables us to develop context-specific changes to influence behaviors and improve the diets, nutrition, and sustainability of communities.
